Which VPS offers in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo include an IPv4 address, what an IPv6-only server can and cannot reach, and how DNS64 and NAT64 close the gap.

**Quick answer — Does a cheap Asia VPS include an IPv4 address, and is IPv6-only usable?**

Usually, but check the plan page: on 2 November 2026, 179 of the 1,139 Asia VPS plan rows in Lacquerbay's survey did not state an IPv4 address, and Amazon Lightsail sold its 1 GB bundle at $5 without IPv4 against $7 with it. IPv6-only works for package mirrors and Docker Hub, yet github.com had no IPv6 address that day.

## Which cheap Asia VPS plans include an IPv4 address?

**Most do, and the ones that do not often say so only by leaving it out.** According to Lacquerbay's survey of 2 November 2026, 179 of the 1,139 plan rows read in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo did not state that an IPv4 address was included, and 35 rows were sold openly as IPv6-only. The survey kept every unstated row out of its price comparison, even where an address is probably included.

### How IPv4 is sold, host by host

| Host | Cities | IPv4 | IPv6 | What it changes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Lacquerbay | Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo | 1 per VPS, included | A /64 | The same price in all three cities |
| Amazon Lightsail | Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo | Dual-stack bundles only | IPv6-only bundles | 1 GB: $7.00 with IPv4, $5.00 without; 512 MB: $5.00 against $3.50 |
| Hetzner Cloud | Singapore | Primary IPv4 billed apart, $0.60 a month | Primary IPv6 free | CPX02: $9.59 with IPv4, $8.99 without |
| WebHorizon | Tokyo; "Singapore" plans run in Johor | Included | A /48 | Written on every plan |
| SurferCloud ULightHost | Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo | 1 dedicated IPv4 | Not recorded | Port capped at 30 Mbps |
| Evoxt | Hong Kong, Tokyo | Not stated on its site | Included on every VM | Left out of the survey's price comparison |
| CryptoVPS.host | Singapore, Tokyo | Not stated | A free option at checkout | Left out of the survey's price comparison |

## What breaks on an IPv6-only VPS?

**On an IPv6-only VPS, `git clone` from GitHub fails before it starts: github.com publishes no IPv6 address.** A server without IPv4 can only open connections to names that have an AAAA record, so every service your code calls needs one. The table shows what public DNS returned on 2 November 2026 for common developer services. GitHub's community thread asking for IPv6 on Git cloning, opened on 25 January 2022, was still marked unanswered that day.

The same limit applies to visitors. Lightsail's documentation says an IPv6-only instance neither sends nor receives public IPv4 traffic, though it can sit behind a Lightsail content delivery distribution or load balancer that answers IPv4 visitors; not every Lightsail image works on IPv6-only.

### IPv6 (AAAA) records of common services, 2 November 2026

| GitHub release downloads | release-assets.githubusercontent.com | No |
| GitHub container registry | ghcr.io | No |
| GitHub raw files | raw.githubusercontent.com | Yes |
| Docker Hub registry | registry-1.docker.io | Yes |
| PyPI | pypi.org, files.pythonhosted.org | Yes |

Lookups through Google Public DNS and Cloudflare DNS on 2 November 2026, both giving the same answers. DNS records change without notice: run `dig AAAA <name> +short` before you rely on a row.

## How do DNS64 and NAT64 fill the gap?

**DNS64 invents an IPv6 address for a name that has only IPv4, and NAT64 carries the traffic to the real IPv4 address.** DNS64 (RFC 6147) builds the AAAA answer by placing the IPv4 address inside a prefix, usually the well-known 64:ff9b::/96 (RFC 6052); a NAT64 gateway (RFC 6146) on that prefix translates the packets. Both halves are needed.

Three ways to get them on a VPS:

- **From the host.** Ask whether it runs NAT64 for IPv6-only plans before you order one.
- **A public NAT64 service.** nat64.net, run by Kasper Dupont, offers free DNS64 resolvers (2a00:1098:2b::1, 2a01:4f8:c2c:123f::1 and 2a00:1098:2c::1) with its own NAT64 behind them. Your IPv4 traffic then crosses a third party's gateway, and the far end sees that gateway's address, not yours.
- **Google Public DNS64** (2001:4860:4860::6464 and 2001:4860:4860::64) synthesises addresses in 64:ff9b::/96 but carries no traffic. Google says to use it only on networks that can reach a NAT64 gateway.

*Check a name, switch to a DNS64 resolver, test*

```bash
dig AAAA github.com +short          # empty = no IPv6 address
# example with the nat64.net resolvers (systemd-resolved: set DNS= instead)
printf 'nameserver 2a00:1098:2b::1\nnameserver 2a01:4f8:c2c:123f::1\n' | sudo tee /etc/resolv.conf
dig AAAA github.com +short          # now an address under the NAT64 prefix
curl -6 -sI https://github.com | head -1
```

## When is an IPv6-only VPS worth it?

**IPv6-only pays when every service you call has an AAAA record and your visitors reach you through something that still speaks IPv4.** The saving is small: $2 a month on Lightsail's 1 GB and 2 GB bundles, $0.60 at Hetzner. A build server that pulls from GitHub, a bot that posts to Discord or Slack, or a shop that calls Stripe needs NAT64 from the first day.

Docker made IPv6 generally available on the Docker Hub registry on 23 August 2023; pulls made without logging in are rate-limited per /64 network over IPv6, not per address. Hetzner's surcharge for IPv4 is one line of a wider gap: [How much does Hetzner Cloud cost in Singapore compared with Europe?](https://lacquerbay.com/hetzner-singapore-vps-price/ "How much does Hetzner Cloud cost in Singapore compared with Europe?") Package mirrors for Debian, Ubuntu, PyPI and npm all published IPv6 addresses on 2 November 2026.

## What IP addresses come with a Lacquerbay VPS?

Every VPS gets one IPv4 address of its own and an IPv6 /64. Each plan states its monthly traffic in terabytes, counted on outbound data; traffic past that allowance is never billed automatically. Every plan sits on a 1 Gbit/s port shared with the other VPS of the same host. Prices are the same in all three cities: [How much does a Lacquerbay VPS cost in each city?](https://lacquerbay.com/pricing/ "How much does a Lacquerbay VPS cost in each city?")

A VPS has data-centre IP addresses: we make no promise about how IP location databases, streaming services or other websites classify them. To check where any VPS really runs, see [Is my "Singapore" VPS really in Singapore, and how can I check where a VPS is located?](https://lacquerbay.com/check-vps-location/ "Is my ’Singapore’ VPS really in Singapore, and how can I check where a VPS is located?"), and for what each host asks at signup, [Which VPS hosts in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo ask no ID, and when do they ask anyway?](https://lacquerbay.com/asia-vps-without-id/ "Which VPS hosts in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo ask no ID, and when do they ask anyway?")

## IPv4 and IPv6 on an Asia VPS: short answers

### Do cheap VPS plans in Asia always include an IPv4 address?

No. Lightsail and Hetzner sell plans without one, and some hosts do not say either way: in Lacquerbay's survey of 2 November 2026, 179 plan rows left IPv4 unstated. Look for an IPv4 line on the plan itself, not only in the FAQ.

### Can I clone from GitHub on an IPv6-only VPS?

Not directly: on 2 November 2026, github.com and api.github.com had no AAAA record. Use a DNS64 resolver with a NAT64 gateway behind it, or choose a plan with an IPv4 address.

### Does Docker Hub work over IPv6?

Yes. Docker made IPv6 generally available on the Docker Hub registry on 23 August 2023, and registry-1.docker.io had AAAA records on 2 November 2026. Pulls made without logging in are counted per /64 network over IPv6.

### Can visitors without IPv6 reach an IPv6-only server?

Not directly. They need an IPv4 front, such as a content delivery network, a load balancer or a reverse proxy with an IPv4 address that forwards to your IPv6 server.

### Is Google Public DNS64 enough on its own?

No. It only rewrites DNS answers into the 64:ff9b::/96 prefix; without a NAT64 gateway on that prefix, connections still fail. Google tells users not to use it on networks that cannot reach one.

### Does Lacquerbay sell IPv6-only plans?

No. Every VPS gets one IPv4 address of its own and an IPv6 /64. Each plan states its monthly traffic in terabytes, counted on outbound data; traffic past that allowance is never billed automatically.
